GUJRANWALA-High prices of food items are keeping away the people from the so-called Sasta bazaars set up in Gujranwala at tehsil level.
The district administration officials are busy focusing on the smooth and easy provision of the sugar and flour on subsidised rates but they are neglecting complaints of the people regarding the high prices and poor quality of fruit and vegetables.
The traders, shopkeepers and vendors, who have stalls at Ramazan bazaars, said that the market committees officials had fixed the prices of fruit, vegetables and other commodities without consulting them. They said that the rate lists prepared by the market committees in Gujranwala are not realistic.
A citizen said that the rate of mangoes was Rs80 to100 per kg before Ramazan while in the Ramazan Bazaar stall holders are selling the fruit at Rs 150 per kg while prices of dates, bananas, oil, chicken and other commodities were also witnessed going up.
The people visiting the Ramazan Bazaar said that the district as well as tehsil municipal administrations have failed to provide quality daily items to the consumers at low rates. They said that government officials supplied small number of the flour and sugar bags neglecting the large number of the people gathered at the sale points. People have urged the Punjab chief minister to take serious notice of the situation and ensure the supply of quality commodities at cheaper prices.
