ISLAMABAD- Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Qazi Jamil Ur Rehman held an open court on Facebook following the directions of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan to resolve public complaints against police here on Friday.
The purpose of holding open court on social media was to give the residents direct access to the police high ups, according to police spokesman.
DIG Safe City Muhammad Salim, SSP Operations Dr Syed Mustafa Tanweer, SSP Security Malik Nahim Iqbal, SSP Investigation Atta Ur Rehman, SSP Headquarters Umer Khan, SSP Traffic Syed Karar Haider and other senior police officers were also present on the occasion.
Speaking to the citizens, the IG said that the police were striving to redress public issues as early as possible. People from across the country put their proposals before the IG. Most of the issues were related to traffic, delay in registration of FIR, activities of land-grabbers and drug-peddlers, and police attitude. The IGP issued directions to the concerned police officers on the spot and assured the citizens of resolving their issues.
The Facebook live open court continued from 4pm to 6pm during which hundreds of citizens and police employees expressed their views. According to the police officials, more than 1600 people through Facebook and over 50 people through phone conveyed their problems to the IGP. More than 15,000 people participated in the programme directly, said the officials further. They said the purpose of the activity was to bring the public and police closer to each other. The IGP told the participants that the activity would continue in the coming days as well.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rural Nosherwan Ali has said that the police were organising open courts so as to address the issues of the residents of the city.
He was addressing the participants of open court in areas of Shahzad Town and Sihala. The open courts were organised under the direction of Inspector General Islamabad Police Qazi Jamil-ur-Rehman and DIG (Operations). The concerned police officers including the SHOs and notables of the area were present on the occasion.
At the outset of the proceedings, the participants shared their grievances and also gave suggestions to resolve them. The SP issued orders on the spot to address the issues of the participants and assured them that their suggestions will be taken into account. Addressing the gathering, SP said the police were determined to resolve the issues faced by the residents. He said the open court were helpful in maintaining direct relationship with the public.
The SP said that better strategy on part of the police led to reduction in crime in the city. However, he said the police were taking steps to further control crime. He asked the gathering to cooperate with the police in controlling the crime in the city.
He said that any complainant can approach him for redressal of the issues. He also asked the people to immediately report to the police in case suspicious activity around them.
SSP (Operations) Dr. Syed Mustafa Tanweer said that the police have been striving for the protection of life and property of the residents. He said steps were being taken to further activate the conciliatory committees. The participants of the gathering thanked Islamabad Police over organising the open court.
