LAHORE - A special division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Thursday issued non-bailable arrest warrants of Liaqat Ali Javed Advocate who slapped a civil judge of Faisalabad during court proceedings. On March 24, the LHC bench had issued contempt of court notice to the lawyer directing him to appear before the court on March 25 but he did not appear in the court. On this DB bench of Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry and Sheikh Azmat Saeed issued non-bailable arrests warrants of Liaqat Ali Advocate. The LHC directed the DPO Faisalabad to make it sure that courts order is executed and accused lawyer is produced before the court. The bench was conducting proceedings in the contempt of court reference sent by the district and sessions judge Faisalabad who had recommended initiating contempt of court proceedings against the advocate. LHC Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif had taken suo moto notice of the incident. The CJ constituted two-member bench for hearing the contempt of court reference. The LHC directed the DPO Faisalabad to make it sure that courts order is executed and the accused lawyer is produced before the court. It is pertinent to mention the incident took place when Liaqat Javed Advocate was making arguments in the court of Civil Judge Tariq Mehmood. After exchanging harsh words with the judge, the lawyer slapped him. Proceeding on DSPs plea today The Lahore High Court will start proceedings on appeal petition of suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Imran Babar Jamil on Friday (today) against the judicial inquiry held by a District & Session judge Lahore. On Thursday, Barrister Farooq Hassan amended the petition after LHC put some objections against on petition and filed it again. Now it has been fixed for hearing on Friday. Barrister Farooq submitted in the amended appeal petition that the judicial inquiry was not done according to its legal requirements and appeared to be biased. The counsel further said that the D&SJ did not allow cross-examination on statements of SPs who were accused of pressurizing the petitioner for the release of alleged robbers. Barrister Farooq said the sessions judge regrettably revealed his own bias against the petitioner by using various phrases in his inquiry report, which suggested that the report was neither neutral nor objective. The inquiry report starts with pejorative description of the petitioner that he appeared flanked by host of advocates, counsel said, adding that it was clear that this phenomenon probably caused prejudice in the mind of sessions judge who had not been used to such adulation for a policeman by the legal community. It has been prayed that the inquiry report of sessions judge be declared not having any evidentiary value. The judicial inquiry might be re-convened either by LHC or by any judge of subordinate judiciary. And respondent police high ups be restrained from taking any punitive action against petitioner and his life and liberty may be protected in accordance with law, counsel further prayed.
