Court summons Fauzia

KARACHI District and Session Judge (South) Fahim Ahmed Siddiqi summoned Pakistan Peoples Party Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab and the SSP Investigation (South) seeking explanation over her statement, which has hurt sentiments of Muslims, till June 1st. The court issued the orders on an application moved by Justice Layer Forum (JLF), seeking registration of a case against Fauzia Wahab for giving controversial statements. In the meantime, the court sought explanation from the SSP Investigation (South) for not launching an FIR against Fauzia Wahab. Citing the PPP Leader and the police authority as respondents, the applicant Advocate Sohail Baig submitted that he was told by the police to launch an FIR against Fauzia Wahab in Islamabad as it did not fall in their jurisdiction, on which he moved to the court. The applicant submitted that the respondent could be charged under section 295-B and 298-A. The City Court Police, however, refused to lodge the FIR saying that Fauzia had given this statement in Islamabad therefore the matter did not come in their domain. It is pertinent to mention that the PPP Secretary Information in a programme at a local TV channel had stated that President Zardari is exempted from appearing in the court under the constitution while Hazrat Umar appeared before a court because during the time period of his Khilafat there was no constitution in Muslim world. This has led to the implication that Fauzia Wahab said that the Constitution is supreme over the Holy Quran, regarding the Constitutional exemption of the Presidency.
