Ex-bureaucrat jailed for 10 years in corruption case

Reference was filed by NAB five years ago

ISLAMABAD - An accountability court Quetta has sentenced 10-year imprisonment to former Balochistan finance secretary Mushtaq Ahmed Raisani in a maga corruption case of the history of the province.

The reserved verdict was announced by Accountability Court-I Judge Munawar Ahmed Shahwani. The court said that Raisani’s properties should be seized and deposited to the national exchequer. The culprits would be disqualified for any post for 10 years.

Khalid Lango, the former adviser to Balochistan chief minister, and Raisani had been given an accumulative sentence of 12-year prison, besides confiscating of their movable and immovable properties.

NAB had started investigations of major corruption against the officers of Local Government and Finance Ministry Balochistan. It was revealed during the course of investigations that Mushtaq Raisani in collaboration with Lango had devoured Rs 2.25 billion while releasing funds worth Rs 2.34 billion to two municipal committees Khaliqabad and Machh. Following these revelations, a raid was conducted at the residence of Mushtaq Raisani and recovered Rs 800 million local and foreign currency (current value). Some 3 kg gold was also seized from his residence. 

A reference was filed against the suspects in 2016 for their front man of Khalid Longo and co-accused Sohail Majeed Shah confessed the crime and returned Rs 960 million after the court consent. 

During the investigations, about Rs 1 billion were recovered from Saleem Shah and his benamidars for 11 properties of DHA Karachi.  The NAB investigation had filed a reference against the suspects of mega corruption scam of Balochistan.
