Police arrest injured dacoit, rapist in separate cases

Police start investigation into the incidents

Rawalpindi   -  Police have arrested a dacoit in injured condition after an exchange of fire at Double Road, informed a police spokesman on Tuesday.

A landlord was also rounded up by police on charges of raping his female tenant in limits of Police Station (PS) Airport, he said.

According to him, two dacoits riding on a motorcycle intercepted a citizen at Double Road, the jurisdiction of PS New Town and snatched his mobile phone on gunpoint. He said the dacoits were fleeing after committing crime when Dolphin Force came into action and started chasing them. The dacoits opened firing on Dolphin Force, he said adding that the police also retaliated and shot down a fleeing dacoit. However, the second dacoit managed to escape from the scene. Police held the injured dacoit and moved to hospital for medical treatment, he said. He added police recovered three mobile phones and a pistol from possession of maimed dacoit. A heavy contingent of police headed by SP Rawal Division Zia Uddin Ahmed rushed to the crime scene and later visited hospital also. CPO Muhammad Ahsan Younas appreciated the efforts of Dolphin Force. 

Meanwhile, investigators of Airport police held a man on charges of raping a female tenant at Dhoke Chaudrian. The accused has been identified as Abdul Basit against whom a rape case was also registered, he said. According to him, the female tenant lodged complaint with PS Airport that Abdul Basit along with his five unknown accomplices raped her in her house. She said the rapists fled after committing crime. Police arrested the rapist and started investigation. SSP Potohar Division Syed Ali said police would not tolerate violence against women. He said the fleeing culprits would be arrested soon.
