ISLAMABAD - Unseeded Abdukhalikov Syrym of Kazakhstan dispatched his opponent Alekseeko Vadim of Ukraine 2-0 in the final of the Men's Singles to lift the title of ITF 2nd Pakistan Futures International Tennis Championships on Saturday here at PTF Tennis Complex. Unseeded Abdukhalikov registered an upset victory in the final by thrashing 8th seed Alekseenko Vadim in straight sets at 6-4 and 6-3. In the first set, the score went up to 2-2 all as both the players hold their respective services. At this stage, Abdukhalikov got the lead in the set 4-3 by breaking 5th game of Alekseenko. However, the winner finished the first set at 6-4. Both the players displayed quality game by hitting of number of winners and long rallies from the base line. In the second set of final, Ukrainian player Alekseenko claimed the lead in the set at 1-0 by breaking the 1st game of Abdukhalikov but he (Abdukhalikov) succeeded to level the score 1-1 all by breaking the 2nd game of his challenger Alekseenko. He won the second set at 6-3 by breaking 8th game of Alekseenko Vadim to lift the title of the men's fixture of the ITF Pakistan Futures Tennis Championship 2008. Abdukhalikov had claimed the second position in the Men's Doubles event of international tennis showpiece. However, the final match lasted 1 hour 50 minutes. Mr. Asif Akhtar Alvi chaired the final whereas Muhammad Arif Qureshi acted as referee. A total number of 60 players from 15 countries including India, Iran, Korea, Thailand, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Georgia, Germany, Tunisia, Chinese Taipei, Great Britain, Morocco and host Pakistan took part in the championship. Justice Choudhary Ijaz Yousaf, Judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan graced the occasion as chief guest and distributed the prizes amongst the winner and runner-up.
