ISLAMABAD
Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has witnessed the signing ceremony of financing agreements of $588.4 million and $76.4 million with the World Bank relating to the development of Dasu Hydropower Project and Sindh Agricultural Growth Project here Tuesday evening.
The Project Agreements of Dasu Hydropower Project were signed by Chairman, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and Managing Director, National Transmission Dispatch Company (NTDC) and Country Director World Bank Rachid Benmessaoud. The Project Agreement of Sindh Agricultural Growth Project was signed by Secretary, Agriculture Department, Government of Sindh and Country Director World Bank.
On this occasion the Prime Minister was informed that Dasu Hydropower Project has the potential of producing 4320MW electricity, which will be developed in two phases. Under Phase-I 2160 MW electricity will be produced which will be extended to 4320 MW in future under Phase-II.
Sindh Agricultural Growth project would improve the agriculture and livestock sector productivity of Sindh province. The project will use a value chain approach to provide direct investment support to the farmers and small & medium producer groups for (i) development of more effective and efficient farming systems; (ii) Introduction of technology packages for increased productivity and value addition; and (iii) Improved market access.
The ceremony was attended by Federal Ministers for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, Senator Pervaiz Rashid; Planning, Development & Reforms, Ahsan Iqbal and Water & Power, Khawaja Muhammad Asif along with Minister of State for Water & Power, Abid Sher Ali; Sindh Minister for Agriculture, Ali Nawaz Mehr and Sindh Minister for Livestock & Fisheries, Jam Khan Shoro among senior officers.
