Action against land grabbers sought

KARACHI Settlers of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) Employers Cooperative Housing Society Welfare Association staged a protest demonstration against land mafia and society administrator demanded recovery of 12-acre land from the land mafia here on Sunday. Large number of settlers of (KESC) Employers Cooperative Housing Society reached in front of Karachi Press Club and staged a protest demonstration against land mafia and society administrator. They added that on August 18, some land grabbers entered in the society and restored heavy aerial firing and occupied 12-acre land of the society, and they threatened the residents to vacant the area. The society was established 30 years ago, and the possession of plots was handed to residents six years ago, where large numbers of residents were from the KESC. The society was located near the Safora Chowrangi, within the jurisdiction of Sachal Police Station. They alleged that the Sachal Police were not cooperating with the allottees and suggested the public to stay away, members of land grabbers forcefully occupied the land and demolish the wall of plots with the support of Societys Administrator, Moiz-ur-Rehman, who was nominated by Secretary Cooperative Society Azher Baloch. Interestingly, the nominated president of the society was not the permanent resident of the society. It is pertinent to mention here that the case of society was already in the court and the Sindh High Court given a stay order to the setatlers, but the police reluctant to take action against land mafia. However, the Malir Cantonment Board after receiving complained from the settlers conducted an operation and recovered the occupied land but after their departure the land grabbers came again and occupied the land once again and restored heavy firing to harass the residents. The angry protestor appealed the President, the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Interior Minister and Governor of Sindh to take immediate action against the land grabbers. The protestors dispersed peacefully after the peaceful demonstration.
