A summary has been sent by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for closure of Strategic Media Communication Cell (SMCC) which is being run under Maryam Nawaz.

According to reports, strategic media cell has 11 people.

On recommendation of state minister for information and broadcasting Maryam Aurangzeb, the title of summary “abolition of SMCC” has been replaced with assigning of SMCC function to other wings of ministry.

SMCC was formed in 2014 on former PM recommendation and a budget of 33 million rupees was allocated to this cell.

Last year recommendation was made to increase the number of people in this cell from 11 to 35 but Finance Ministry rejected this for want of budget compensation.
