PPP will save, rebuild country: Zardari

| PPP leader vows to continue struggle for people’s rights

ISLAMABAD      -   Pakistan People’s Party yesterday said that December 27 was the blackest day in the country’s history as a popular leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated on this day in 2007.

PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived in Larkana yesterday to attend death anniversary commemoration of his mother and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. He will address the event today (December 27). Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a suicide blast in Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh on December 27, 2007, a few months after her return to Pakistan after eight years of political exile in London. The PPP has been holding death anniversary commemorations at Garhi Khua Bakhsh near Larkana since 2008.

In his message on Benazir Bhutto’s death anniversary, former President Asif Ali Zardari reiterated his resolve of continuing struggle to rid the country of poverty, financial instability and unemployment.

Zardari said that the country was “dearer to us than our lives. We will not compromise on its freedom, dignity and respect.” He said that today, the country was going through a dangerous situation, the economy, foreign affairs and law are all going through turmoil.

He said that it pained him to see that the poor were suffering and had been deprived of the fruits of democracy.

Zardari said that since 2013, there had been constant attacks on authority, honour and dignity of the Parliament, and PPP had been resisting them.

He said that leadership of PPP saved and rebuilt the country after devastation in the past, and will do the same now. “Patience and endurance are not our weaknesses but our principles,” he added.

The PPP co-Chairman said that “we will not let Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s great sacrifice go in vain.”

PPP Secretary General Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari said December 27 will always be marked as the blackest day in the history of the country.

“The enemies of the country and the nation separated the world leader and the national leader from the people. By martyring Benazir Bhutto, those elements plunged the country into darkness,” he said.

Benazir Bhutto, he said, was alive in the hearts of the martyred people and the killers were also afraid of their shadow.

Bukhari said Benazir Bhutto sacrificed his life for the protection of Pakistan. “She raised the flag of Pakistan in Swat. Activists from all over the country will pay homage on the day of martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto. The courageous people’s democratic struggle of Benazir Bhutto is a golden chapter of history,” he maintained.

The PPP leader said the party workers were committed to promote the national democratic thinking and thoughts of Benazir Bhutto.

Bilawal, he said, was the leader of the people and the torch bearer of Benazir Bhutto’s political legacy.
