Asim in Malaysian squash event final

ISLAMABAD - Asim Khan moved into the finals of the $5000 Malaysian Tour-II 2018, after brushing aside local lad Valentineo Bong 3-1 in the semi-final played on Friday.

It is pertinent to mention here that Malaysia becomes a favourite hunting ground for Asim, as he had won the Tour-I last week and now he is all set to play in the finals. While talking exclusively to The Nation Asim attributed victory to the PSF. He was full of praise for the federation and termed it was extra motivation from Senior Vice President Air Marshal Shahid Akhtar Alvi and Secretary Group Captain Tahir Sultan, which helped him a great deal. “Frankly speaking I was down, I had lost that self-belief as I was playing well but not winning any major or even minor title. It was a reason of huge concern for me but Air Marshal sat with me and told me to relax and focus on my game. It produced wonders for me and he is fatherly figure and his presence is a great source of inspiration for all of us.”

Asim started well in the first game and took the game 11-6 without any major resistance. But like witnessed in the past, after playing so well, he just lost focus and that cost him dearly and he lost the second game 3-11. But it did not cause much damage as Asim went on to win next two games 11-7 and 11-6 to setup yet another final date. “It is quite unique and feel good factor for me, hopefully I will continue to play well and win another title for my country,” Asim concluded.
