KARACHI - Sindh Information and Local Government Minister Sharjeel Memon has said that PTI chairman Imran Khan and PAT chief Tahirul Qadri carry identical agenda to derail democracy in Pakistan.
Any foreign citizen would not be allowed to bring any revolution in the country, he said.
He was addressing as a chief guest of the distribution ceremony of plots’ challans allocated for the journalists at Karachi Press Club on Thursday.
He said the federal and Punjab government should avoid carrying on dictatorial system and should focus in running the government according to the terms of democracy. PPP government always stood for the freedom of media and condemns the federal government action to ban TV channels. The people who are trying to handle media as per their desires and pressing down the media independence are living in the fool paradise, he added.
Memon informed that government would give about 138 plots to the journalists while the construction of auditorium and press conference hall will be started this year. Government is focusing to facilitate the journalists’ organisation, he added.
KPC president Imtiaz Khan Faran, secretary general Amir Lateef, joint secretary Shams Kerio, Arbab Chandio, Kafeeluddin Faizan and others also spoke on the occasion.
Talking to media men after the ceremony, he said the federal government was taking revenge from the media groups by placing ban on TV channels. PPP has always supported the journalists and freedom of media in the county and would not tolerate injustice with the journalists.
To a question, he said the federal and provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had decided to keep the internally displaced people (IDPs) in the camps set up in the KPK.
The PPP has established relief camps across the country to collect aid and the relief goods would be sent to these camps soon.
Conspiracies have been hatched over the IDPs issues. “They are our brothers and we will not leave them in this hard time,” he said.
To a question about the PAT chief, Sharjeel said everyone knows the agenda of Qadri, he wants to derail the democratic system in the country and we will not allow any foreigner to work on such agenda in the country. People have given mandate to the PML-N and pointlessly interference of the PAT chief is an attempt to derail the democracy in the country. Current government should complete its tenure and the efforts to end the government of PML-N government were not right.
To a question about PTI chief Imran Khan, he said PTI had been divided into two groups and the announcement of resignations from the assemblies reflects the immature politics of Imran Khan. He said the PTI chief was not giving a good message by attempting to derail democracy in the country on rigging grounds.
PPP would not support PAT and PTI but will always play its role for the stability of democracy in the country, he added.
