First dengue case confirmed

LAHORE - With gradual increase in the mercury level providing conducive atmosphere for growth of Aedes Aegypti, first confirmed case of dengue fever has been reported from Mayo Hospital on Wednesday.
Maria, 14, a resident of Jalalpur Pir Wala was brought to Mayo Hospital a couple of days back, with symptoms of dengue fever. She was tested positive for dengue virus on Wednesday.
Director Epidemic Control Dr Jaffar Ilyas confirmed that Maria was tested positive for dengue and she was under treatment at Isolation Ward of Mayo Hospital. As many as 46 suspected dengue patients were also brought to different hospitals in Lahore.
Moot: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) arranged a National Conference on Nutrigenomics on Wednesday to train researchers and faculty members on the use of different molecular techniques involved in Nutrigenomics for human and livestock welfare.
Former Vice-Chancellor Muhammad Nawaz presided over the inaugural ceremony of the conference while Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Dr Prof Masroor Elahi Babar, Dean Prof Dr Abdullah and faculty members attended.
The conference was aimed at highlighting the importance of combining traditional and molecular approaches for elevating our animals’ productivity and health. Organiser of the conference, Prof Dr Masror Ellahi Babar said that it was an effort to better understand the latest trends in Nutrigenomics and to update and train the participants with the latest techniques used in this field.
Nine experts acted as resource persons in the technical sessions of the conference and 85 researchers and faculty members.
