Kemari oil terminal fire still uncontrolled

KARACHI: Fire that erupted at Kemari oil terminal’s storage tank remains uncontrolled on Sunday – after more than 22 hours.

Karachi Port Trust’s (KPT) official says that the fire was burning at five of the terminal’s 13 storage tanks – one of which may collapse. Three snorkels have been spraying foam in order to control the fire – while 15 teams of the KPT, the Pakistan Navy and the district government have also been working to put out the fire.

Reportedly, two people have been killed and another was injured in the tragic incident. A KPT official said that the two deceased were the surveyors of a private oil firm – while another was reported missing.

The official was of the view that the cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately and further stated that the priority was to put out the raging blaze.
