KARACHI – At least 13 people were killed in different incidents of violence here on Monday.
Two people were killed and another was wounded when unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate firing at Bakra Hotel within the limits of Kharadar police station. Following the incident, 35-year-old Rehan, son of Mehmood and Omar, 23 and Hussain sustained bullets wounds.
Police said that at least two armed men riding a motorcycle came close to the Bakra Hotel and opened indiscriminate firing. Resultantly, a passer-by Rehan, Omar and a pan shopkeeper, Hussain were injured. They were taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi where Rehan and Omar succumbed to their injuries. Police have so far been unable to ascertain the motive behind the killing while Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi claimed the affiliation of Rehan with the party and said that deceased was associated with the MQM-H’s Lines Area sector.
Two activists of the Pakistan People’s Party were gunned down in an incident of firing in Orangi Town. The deceased was identified as Shahid and the injured as Lal who later succumbed to his injures during treatment. They were taken to Murshid Hospital in Orangi Town.  Two policemen were injured near Lea Market within the limits of Napier police station. The injured were moved to CHK for medical treatment where doctors termed their condition critical.
Meanwhile, an activist of the Sunni Tehreek identified as Hazratullah, son of Naimatullah was shot dead and two of his companions, namely Daniyal and Sohail were wounded at Chandio Chowk in Baldia Town. Police said the incident took place when the victims were sitting near their residence and at least two unidentified armed riding a motorcycle sprayed bullets discriminately.
Resultantly, they sustained injuries and were taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi where one Hazratullah succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Tension prevailed in the area where routine and commercial activities were suspended while a heavy contingent of law enforcers was deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
On the other side, one Salman Khan, 25, was gunned down near Jhanda Chowk within the jurisdiction of Garden police station. Police said the deceased was a pick up driver and was going somewhere to deliver the loaded tyres when at least two armed men riding a motorcycle shot and killed him.
Arz Mohammad, 25, son of Awwal Jokhio affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was shot dead at a cattle farm where he used to work as a watchman. According to Memon Goth police, unidentified culprits shot and killed him when he was asleep at the cattle farm apparently over personal enmity.
Separately, a 36-year-old Ashraf Javed, 35, son of Shareef was gunned down near Rozi Mor within the limits of Surjani Town police station. Police officials said that the victim was killed by his neighbouring man, namely Shani over monetary dispute of worth Rs350, adding that the accused managed to escape from the scene after committing the crime while the raids were being carried out for his arrest.
Mohammad Hassan, 18, son of Mohammad Siddiq was killed outside his home situated in Eidgah Chowk within the limits of Baloch Colony police station. Inquiry officer sub-inspector Mohammad Zahoor said that the unidentified culprits stabbed him with the knife over personal enmity while police were looking for the culprit.
However, police have discovered the bodies of two men and a woman from different parts of the City. Police officials said that all the three victims are yet to be identified. A body was found from Sector 36-B within the limits of Landhi police station. Police officials said that unidentified culprits after kidnapping the victim shoot him multiple times and later threw his body at an abandoned place and fled away. Another body was found in a gunny bag from Ahmed Shah Bukhari Road within the limits of Kalri police station. Police officials said that unidentified culprits first kidnapped him and took him at an undisclosed location where they shot and tortured him and later dumped his body at the abandoned place.
Five to six days old body of woman was found within the limits of Nazimabad police station. The victim is yet to be identified. Police officials said that the woman was tortured to death while her body was at least five to six days old and unidentified culprits killed her over unexplained reasons.
Meanwhile, an MQM’s Baldia Town sector member, Mohammad Rafiq, 35, son of Kareem Din succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Rafiq accompanied by Baldia Town’s joint sector in charge Arshad Qureshi and a passer-by girl, was wounded when at least two armed men riding a motorcycle targeted them near their home in Rangar Mohalla within the limits of Saeedabad police station on Sunday evening.
Civil Hospital doctors call off strike:  Health professionals of the Civil Hospital on Monday called off their strike against the manhandling of a senior doctor and paramedical staff following a meeting at the Dow Medical College. All out-door patient and emergency departments at the CHK would resume their work from Tuesday morning, announced a representative of the Dow University of Health Sciences doctors’ and paramedics’ associations.
The meeting was attended by DUHS Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Umer Farooq, Civil Hospital MS Dr Saeed Qureshi, PMA Sindh chapter chief Dr Samrina Hashmi, Deputy Commissioner (South) Mustafa Jamal Qazi, SSP Sarfraz Nawaz, DCP (South) Zahid, Assistant Commissioner Mushtaq, senior professors, faculty members, doctors, paramedics and a large number of students.
