KARACHI – Bandits robbed Rs4.7 million from a bank within the limits of Boat Basin police station on Monday.
Police said that at least five armed culprits barged into a branch of a local bank located in Shirin Jinnah Colony and managed to escape after looting.
Bandits completed their swift operation within 3 minutes without any resistance offered by the security guards deployed at the bank. Police said that the armed men also held the staff and the customers at gunpoint and warned them of dire consequences.
SHO Naseer Tanoli said that the robbers first held the bank security guards and snatched their weapons before collecting cash.
He said that the police would able to probe the case and make their arrests as the robbers did not take away the footages recorded by the close circuit cameras installed at the bank.
Tanoli said that police had obtained the footages from the bank and initiated investigation. Police also detained the bank security guards for their alleged involvement in the heist. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
MoU signed for establishment of Wheat Storage Facilities: Food Department, Sindh and Fauji Akber Portia Marine Terminals Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishment of Strategic Storage Facilities of 150,000 tons wheat/grain at South Western Industrial Zone of Port Qasim.  The was signed by Aftab Ahmed Memon, Provincial Secretary Food Department and Ahmed K. Rana, Chief Executive Officer, Fauji Akbar Portia Marine Terminals Ltd here on Monday. Sindh Finance Minister, and Chairman Sindh Board of Investment Secretary Finance were also present on the occasion.
According to MoU, the Project Company will make an investment of upto US$ 100 million including a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) component from potential Chinese investors for establishment of the strategic storage facilities exclusively for Sindh government or its nominee.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Finance said that Government of Sindh has already initiated establishment of Modern Grain Storage Facility under PPP mode. The current environmental challenges especially in the wake of recent devastating floods in Pakistan have made the construction of modern grain storage facility indispensable to cater to the fluctuating demands of grain.  The SSI chairman said that at present Sindh alone was facing storage shortage of minimum 4.0 million metric tons. 
Fauji Akbar Portia Marine Terminals Ltd Chief Executive Officer said that Fauji Akbar Portia Marine Terminals had already established an Exclusive Dry Cargo Terminal at Port Qasim. Pakistan with a cost of $135 million which has the maximum design capacity of 2.5 million tons and storage capacity of 125.000 tons (grains).
