Sports goods exports down 8.72pc in July


ISLAMABAD  - Exports of sports goods decreased by 8.72 per cent during the first month of current fiscal year as compared to exports in the same month of last year.
The sports goods exports were recorded at $26.627 million during July 2012 as compared to the exports of $29.170m recorded during July 2011, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported. As compared to the exports of $29.336 million recorded in June 2012, the exports of sports goods during July 2012 witnessed negative growth of 9.23 percent, the data revealed.
Among the sports goods, the exports of footballs decreased by 10.77 percent and 17.30 percent as compared to July 2011 and June 2012, respectively.
The exports of footballs during July 2011 stood at $11.581 million against the exports of $12.979 million in July 2011 and $14.004m in June 2011, according to the data.
However, the exports of gloves increased by 7.71 percent and 0.57 percent during July 2012 when compared to the exports of July 2011 and June 2012, the data revealed.
In July , the exports of gloves increased up to $11.263 million from the exports of $10.457 million in July 2011 and $11.199 million in June 2012.
Exports of other sports goods decreased by 34.03 percent and 8.47 percent in July when compared to the exports of July 2011 and June 2012 respectively.
The exports of other sports goods during July stood at $3.783 million against the exports of $5.734 million in July 2011 and US$4.133 million in June 2012, the PBS data revealed.
