KARACHI  - Supreme Court of Pakistan Monday directed Sindh Chief Secretary to appear alongwith entire record regarding award of promotion to Engineers of Sindh Irrigation Department on August 28, 2012.
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, passed this direction while hearing two petitions against non-award of promotion to Irrigation Department engineers despite orders passed by Service Tribunal.
Advocate Abdul Hafeez Pirzada submitted some engineers were regularized in 1992, but promotion given to those who were directly appointed. The aggrieved engineers approached Service Tribunal, which passed order in their favor, directing government to give promotion to aggrieved persons, but same directions were not yet complied. He contended his client, presently working in BPS-17, were still awaiting promotion for which they stand qualified on fulfilling all formalities.
SC bench directed Chief Secretary Sindh to appear on August 28, 2012 with entire record of promotions and explain as to why directions for promotion were not yet complied.
SHC summons Federal Interior Secretary in travel ban matter: Sindh High Court Monday directed Secretary Federal Interior Ministry to appear on August 28, 2012 on businessman?s petition challenging placement of his name on Exit Control List.
A division bench, headed by Justice Maqbool Baqir, passed this direction when Federal Interior Secretary failed to appear in court despite issuance of notice on last date of hearing.
Petitioner Irfan Nawab moved court against restrictions imposed on his travel abroad by Federal Interior Ministry on recommendation of private bank in alleged bank fraud case.
Advocates Raza Rabbani and Saalim Salam Ansari submitted placement of name in ECL was illegal as petitioner was neither involved in anti-state activities nor did he cause any loss to national exchequer. They submitted petitioner?s name was placed on ECL on request of private bank but he was not a defaulter. They prayed to allow petitioner to proceed abroad. It was also urged to pass direction to Federal Interior Ministry to lift ban on his travel abroad.
SHC on March 18, 2012 allowed petitioner to proceed abroad subject to furnishing surety in sum of Rs 1 million. It also issued notice to Secretary Interior Ministry, but he did not appear.
On Monday, Deputy Attorney General Javed Farooqui informed that Interior Secretary could not appear today. Adjourning hearing till August 28, 2012, SHC division bench directed Secretary Federal Interior Ministry to be present tomorrow at 08:30AM sharp.
