Winter fashion for the fashionable soul

By Maria B

There’s nothing drabber than wearing dull and monotonous clothes during the winter months. While the season itself can be harsh and unforgiving in certain parts of the globe, there is a certain festivity associated with the season which calls for wearing dynamic and vibrant fashion.

While one finds many different fabrics to wear during the cold winter seasons, such as cambric, khaddar, cotton net, chiffon, nets and silk, there are two fabrics which will no doubt find their way into the wardrobe of every serious fashionista, and those are pashmina and linen. The beauty of pashmina is that it is soft, lightweight and can be used to create the ultimate winter must-have, the pashmina shawl, which can keep one cozy and warm in even the chilliest of environments.

Linen on the other hand is also a very dynamic fabric and is another staple winter essential. At MARIA.B. we’ve experienced resounding success with our Premium Luxury Linen collection, especially with the high quality linen that we use, which is both durable and comfortable to wear. When used with intricate embroideries and velvet add-ons, one can adopt a plush, luxurious look that is ideal for the cold season.

But fabric is just one factor in the equation of winter fashion. What about embellishments, silhouettes and colours? Personally, I like my wardrobe to be decked out with a variety of colours. While some may prefer to wear more somber shades such as greys, plums, aubergines, burnt Siennas and Prussian blues there are others who would like to stand out from the crowd and adopt more vibrant shades and hues that exhibit an aura of festivity.

When choosing a silhouette, it is always advisable to go for cuts which are flattering to your own body type. That being said dabbling with fusion wear is very in and is a trend which is likely to surge in popularity even further. Our own winter collections feature both modern and desi silhouettes, such as short kurtis with cigarette pants, angrakhas, capes and gowns that cater to both traditional and avant-garde tastes in fashion alike.

The beauty of embellishments is that when tastefully done, they can provide the additional wow factor to your style persona which can really make you stand out! As with designs, silhouettes and cuts, you can opt to go for the modern route or the traditional route when you embellish your winter wear. When it comes to embroideries, machine embroidery with silk and anchor thread can be complemented by intricate handcrafted embellishments with traditional material such as kora, dapka, sequins, tilla and beads to exude an aura of elegance and sophistication.

As with all fashion, important things to look out for are clothes that match your own personality and body type. Anyone can wear clothes, but it takes a good ensemble with the right embellishments and accessories and cuts to truly be fashionable! So go out this winter and don’t be afraid to experiment with new clothes and accessories to evolve your own personal look. Always remember that great style will always be a reflection of a great personality. Let your personality shine this winter!
