ANP major party in Mardan by winning 60 seats in LG polls

Mardan - Awami National Party (ANP) has emerged as the biggest party in Mardan district by grabbing 60 chairman seats of different Neighbourhood Councils (NCs) and Village Councils (VCs) while Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) secured 48 seats and became second largest party. Independent candidates won 88 seats while ruling party PTI could win only 8 seats in Mardan district.  

According to the official results of LG elections held for 227 out of 231 Mardan district seats on December 19, independents won 88 seats, ANP 60 seats, JUI-F 48, PML-N 14, Jamaat-e-Islami and PPP won 3 seats each on different NCs and VCs in the district.  

In tehsil Mardan ANP clinched 33 chairman seats, JUI-F 17, PML-N gained 2, JI and PPP one each while 34 independent candidates were elected.  

Similarly, in tehsil Takhatbhai JUI-F gained 15, ANP 7, PML-N 10, PTI 8, JI 2, Tahreek Labaik and PPP one seat each while 11 independent candidates were elected.  

In tehsil Rustam JUI-F and ANP won 3 seats each, PML-N gained 1 and 19 independent candidates were elected.  

Likewise, in tehsil Katlang JUI-F grabbed 7 seats, ANP won 9, PPP, PML-N and Allaho Akbar Tehreek one seat each while 9 independents candidates succeeded on different VC seats.  

In tehsil Garhi Kapura ANP received 8, JUI-F 6 and 12 independent candidates were elected as chairman on different VCs.  

It may be noted that in 2018 general election PTI had received 215,595 votes in Mardan district, ANP 144,728 votes and JUI-F secured 74,679 votes.

, however, in the current local government (LG) election JUI-F increased its vote bank to 160,579. However, PTI decreased to 94,285 and ANP also decreased its vote to 123,227.
