Police foil bank robbery, arrest ring leader


KARACHI - Police foiled a bank robbery and arrested one of the five accused after an encounter in Old City area on Saturday.
Sajid aka Commando along with his four accomplices arrived at the branch of a private bank in Bolton Market within the premises of Mithadar Police Station. The accused made bank security guards hostages on gunpoint. A police team being informed reached there which made the accused open indiscriminate fire on the cops. When the police team retaliated, four robbers fled from the scene but while police managed to arrest gang leader Sajid after an encounter.
Police officials said Sajid had worked as a security guard at the said bank branch. He had used to work as security guard for Shehzada Security Services but got terminated on July 17.
Meanwhile, Anti Violent Crime Cell recovered an abducted boy and arrested four accused from North Nazimabad area. SSP Niaz Khoso said the abducted boy namely Abdul Rehman was recovered during a joint raid conducted by Citizens Police Liaison Committee and Anti-Violent Crime Cell. Khoso informed the accused had kidnapped the boy from Rizvia Society on June 30 and demanded Rs10 million from the family. He said that they have also arrested Nadir and Zeeshan who are the neighbours of the abducted boy and involved in the kidnapping. Two kids set on fire by maternal uncles in Karachi
INP adds: Maternal uncles set their nephew and niece on fire by sprinkling petrol on them in Sachal area of the city on Saturday.
Reportedly, eight-year-old Shumaila and three-year-old Hamza received burn injuries after their maternal uncles, Akhtar and Yousuf, set them on fire. Reports said that mother of the children was residing with her father and brothers at their house after a quarrel with her husband over a domestic issue. The burnt children were shifted to Patel Hospital for treatment.
