ISLAMABAD - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday rejected disqualification pleas against PML-N Senator Kulsoom Parveen and Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly Javed Naseem (PTI).
 President Balochistan National Party (Awami) Mir Israrullah Zehri had filed a petition with the ECP seeking disqualification of Kulsoom Parveen who as a sitting BNP-A senator had been awarded a PML-N ticket to contest recently held Senate election from its platform.
Kulsoom Parveen, who had won a senate seat from Balochistan in 2009 had subsequently joined BNP-A. Her plea before the ECP was that she had sent a resignation to the BNP-A leadership before filing her nomination papers by post but was not received by the other side. The ECP held that she had defected but the defection was applicable to her term that is already expired.
The commission also dismissed disqualification reference against MPA Javed Naseem of PTI who had been accused of violating the party discipline by abstaining from the voting during the recently held senate elections and proposing a non-PTI candidate.
 The commission observed that the scope of disqualification on the ground of defection was limited and was not applicable to the violation of party's directions about voting in senate polls.
Under Article 63-A of the Constitution, the scope in restricted to the member of a parliamentary party who votes or abstains from voting in the house contrary to the party policy to which he belongs to in relation to elections of the prime minister or a chief minister, a vote of confidence, no-trust motion, money bill or a constitution amendment bill.
