$127m granted for energy, water sectors





KARACHI - Federal Minister and Chairman Higher Education Commission, Dr Jawaid Laghari on Saturday called on Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at the CM House.
Qaim said that after NFC Award and devolution of departments and decision of the meeting of Council of Common Interest (CCI), the administrative control of Universities have been transferred to provincial governments.
Laghari informed the chief minister that under USAID programme, an amount of $127 million has been granted for energy, water and agriculture sectors.  He added that the task of water centre project will be assigned to Mehran University of Engineering & Technology.
Dr. Jawaid R. Leghari further informed the Chief Minister Sindh that the world Bank has provided an amount of $ 300 million and the same will be distributed / allocated according to NFC formula. He further informed that the funds are also being provided for Scholarship Programme for students under Higher Education Commission programme under NFC. He also apprised the Chief Minister Sindh about issues of Sindh University and Shaheed Benazirabad educational institution so that there will be no hindrance in expanding educational activities.
