California: She's known for not pulling any punches. She doesn't take no for an answer. And she's certainly no wallflower.

Now Miss Piggy is being recognised for 40 years of work to empower women with a prestigious feminism award.

She's set to be awarded the Sackler Center First Award, honouring women who are leaders in their fields, from the Brooklyn Museum's Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art.

The museum said: "The 2015 Sackler Center First Awards honours performer, actor, writer, and icon Miss Piggy, for more than 40 years of blazing feminist trails with determination and humour, and for her ground-breaking role inspiring generations the world over."

She's certainly done that.

Even though she may technically be a fictional character, Miss Piggy has more than earned her place among the most powerful women in showbiz.

Miss Piggy will receive the award on 4 June, before holding an evening of talks with activist and author Gloria Steinem.

And, of course, Kermit will be her plus one.
