Incineration system to dispose of clinical waste

LAHORE - A centralised incineration system will be set up for disposing of hazardous clinical waste generated in Lahore. For this purpose, incinerator of Children’s Hospital will be operated to its full capacity.

It was decided at a meeting chaired by Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah yesterday. Medical Director Children’s Hospital Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore, officers of the department and engineers attended the meeting.

Najam Ahmed Shah directed the engineers of concerned firm to make arrangements to run the incinerator to full capacity.

He directed completing repair and maintenance of incinerator and ensuring working to its full capacity to dispose of harmful waste of other hospitals in Lahore. He directed formulating foolproof checking and monitoring system for collection and disposing of hospitals waste. He said that pilferage of hospital waste should be strictly monitored. He said that initially Lahore General Hospital and gradually other hospitals would be taken in the centralized system of incineration.  He said that the option of outsourcing collection of waste from different hospitals and its transportation to the incinerator ay Children’s Hospital would be considered.
