Kanye West kicks off ‘Saint Pablo’ tour with floating stage

LOS ANGELES-The rapper was suspended above the crowd in a unique set design as the tour kicked off in Indiana.

Kanye West began his 39-date Saint Pablo Tour in Indiana Thursday, debuting his unique set design, which featured a moving stage suspended above the audience. During the show Kanye stood on a small platform which rose above the crowd and moved throughout the performance.

According to Rolling Stone, the stage was lit from above with an array of lights, similar to West’s Glastonbury set. The staging allowed fans to move in the arena, as the view of West constantly changed throughout the show.

Speaking about the design to E! News West said: “I just wanted people to get into it and have a fun time. Make it not be just about watching the artist but people watching their friends and singing along with the lyrics and just being able to see themselves and their outfits.”

“Take the concert experience to another level. It’s not just about what you’re seeing on the screen or what you’re seeing me doing up on the stage, but what you and your friends are doing,” he added. “I want people to come to the Pablo shows and know it’s just going to be the best time they’ve had in their life.”

Kanye also revealed that even before he began dating his now wife Kim Kardashian she served as his greatest inspiration. ”Her [spirit] was there even before she was my girlfriend,” he said. ”I would do these performances and hope that she would see me in my cool outfit and think that I would be cool enough to be her boyfriend.”
