CM for expediting work on Indus Highway

KARACHI - Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday presided over a meeting to review the construction of Indus Highway at the chief minister House and asked the federal authorities to expedite work on it.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Sindh Rizwan Memon, Federal Secretary for Communication Furqan Bahadur Khan, Chairman National Highway Authority Jawad Rafiq, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sindh Sohail Rajput and other officials. The chief minister told the participants of the meeting that accidents are reported on the highway on daily basis which causes loss of precious lives.

The work on this project therefore needs expedition in order to not only facilitate the masses but also save the precious lives which is the responsibility of the government, said the chief minister.

The chief minister also inquired regarding a road construction project from Kotri to Thatta from the NHA chairman and said that the road was very important as it would fulfill the requirements of the flow of traffic in Kotri industrial sector. The federal secretary for communication and chairman NHA assured the chief minister of paying special attention on completion of these projects.

DR ASIM APPOINTED SHEC CHIEF

The chief minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday re-appointed Dr Asim Hussain as the Chairman Sindh Higher Education Commission for the term he had served before.

The notification in this regard was issued by the chief secretary Sindh Rizwan Memon which stated that the appointment was made under the Sindh Higher Education Commission Act, 2013.

It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Asim Hussain had the charge of the Chairman Sindh Higher Education Commission when he was arrested by Rangers for facilitating terrorists and over alleged involvement in corrupt practices. However, after proceedings in Sindh High Court for a long period, he was granted bail in several cases filed against him.

After his release on bail, he was also made the President of Pakistan People’s Party Karachi division but was later removed over some differences with local leadership and was assured from the party leadership to be given bigger chance to serve.
