LAHORE - The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Sunday arrested a young electrical engineer for his alleged links with an international child pornography ring, says an investigator.
He said that FIA conducted a raid on receipt of a complaint from the National Child Exploitation Centre of Interpol in Ottawa, Canada regarding involvement of Taimur Maqsood, resident of Jhang District, in child pornography and exploitation. Other ring members were operating from other countries like Canada, America, Sweden and New Zealand.
Accused Taimur is an engineer by profession and serving as electrical engineer at Shakar Ganj Sugar Mills Limited in Jhang. During preliminary interrogation, the accused told the investigators, “I’m addicted to watching pornography involving children aged between 8 to 12.”
The FIA Lahore received a complaint through its director general’s office about the accused when his ring members were nabbed at the international level. On this, a team was constituted by Khalid Anis, deputy director for cyber crime, to conduct a raid. The team consisting of Muhammad Usman (AD), Rana Obaidullah (senior investigator) and Ashir Aroon (sub-inspector) conducted the raid and apprehended the accused from Satelite Town in Jhang.
The accused allegedly confessed to his crime during on the spot interrogation. Further, the digital media in his use i.e. mobile phones, computer, internet modem and laptops were also seized.
An investigator said they have recovered 60 GB data including porn videos from the accused. FIA has sent his laptops and other devices for a forensic analysis. The accused would be produced in court to obtain his physical remand on Monday (today).
