MIRPUR (AJK) - Three locals including two women were critically injured as a result of the fresh violation of ceasefire by the Indian troops in Kotli and Rawalakot districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, the official sources said.
"Indian troops resorted to unprovoked cease fire violations in Khuiratta, Kotli and Battal, Rawalakot sectors targeting civil population", Inter Services Public Relations said in a press release.
"Three citizens including two women got injured due to Indian firing", it said, adding that "Pakistan army troops effectively responded to Indian posts from where firing was initiated.”
Local official sources confirmed the report of Indian firing to this correspondent over telephone Sunday evening. The injured were taken to hospitals in Kotli and Rawalakot, they said.
COMPLETE SHUTDOWN IN IOK
APP adds: Complete shutdown marked by strict restrictions was observed in Indian-occupied Kashmir on Sunday, against the killing of two civilians and injuries to many by Indian troops in Shopian district.
According to KMS, call for the strike was given by the Joint Resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik. All shops and other business establishments were closed in Srinagar, Shopian and other parts of the territory while public transport was off the road.
Two civilians identified as Javaid Ahmad Butt and Suhail Javaid Lone were killed after Indian troops opened fire on peaceful protesters in Ganowpora area of Shopian district, Saturday. The JRL in a statement said that Indian army, paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force and police were hell bent on liquidating Kashmiri youth under a plan, irrespective of them being armed or unarmed.
Meanwhile, the authorities had imposed restrictions especially in Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Kralkhud, Maisuma, Maharaj Gunj and Safakadal areas of Srinagar and Shopian districts to prevent anti-India protests against the killings.
On the other hand, thousands of people carried bodies of Javaid Butt and Suhail Javaid Lone to their native Balpora and Gawanpora areas of Shopian district. Javed and Suhail were laid to rest at their ancestral graveyards, Saturday. The people raised anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.
The authorities blocked the internet service across the Shopian district after the killings.
