LAHORE-The Sports Board Punjab (SBP) Open Tennis Championship 2021 reached the semifinals stage as 24 matches were decided on Thursday here at the PLTA Courts.
In the men’s singles quarterfinals, Ahmad Kamil played well against Hasheesh Kumar and outpaced hum by 6-4, 6-2, Hassan Riaz faced some resistance from Abdul Hanan Khan before winning the match by 7-6, 6-3, Imran Bhatti had to struggle hard to beat spirited Mian Bilal by 6-2, 5-7, 10-5 while Mahatir Muhammad played well against promising Shaeel Durab to win the encounter 7-5, 6-2.
The boys U-18 quarterfinals saw Faizan Fayyaz doing smart work against Shaeel Durab and winning his match with a margin of 8-4 while Mahatir Muhammad brushed aside sorry Ahtesham Arif 8-0 and Hasheesh Kumar had also no mercy against Hanzla Anwar, crushing him by 8-0. In the U-18 doubles quarterfinals, Shaeel Durab/Nalain Abbas defeated Muneeb Majeed/Shehryar Anees 4-2, 4-2, Moavia Butt/Husnain beat Zaeem Ghafoor/Arman Kamran 5-3, 4-1 and Hasheesh Kumar/Asad defeated Hassan Ali/Faizan Fayyaz 5-4, 5-4.
The U-14 pre-quarterfinals saw Moavia Butt beating Abdullah Pirzada 7-6, Ameer Mazari trouncing Aized Khalil 6-2, Omer Jawad thrashing Abubakar Khalil 6-0 and Asad Zaman crushing Harris Bajwa 6-0. In the U-12 pre-quarterfinals, Ameer Mazari played tremendous tennis against Xeerak Mustafa to win the match 6-1 while Samer Zaman didn’t allow Ali Usman to score a single point and won the match 6-0. In the seniors 35 plus doubles, Tariq Sadiq/Kashif Rehmat beat Mehboob Waheed/Muhammad Yousaf 6-1, 6-2. The semifinals of different categories will be played tomorrow (Friday) while all the finals will be contested on Saturday.
