Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Saqib Nisar on Sunday ordered the arrest of Nadeem Abbas, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) newly-elected member of the Punjab Assembly.
The CJP took suo motu notice of the physical assault of police officers in Lahore's Hanjarwal area on Saturday night by Abbas and his aides.
He ordered to arrest the culprits within twenty four hours and put the name of accused on exit control list (ECL). The Chief Justice ordered to include anti-terrorism clauses in the case.
Justice Nisar further directed Inspector General (IG) Punjab Kaleem Imam and other officers to appear before the top court on Tuesday.
Late Saturday night, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Maaz Zafar, security officers led by SHO Rana Afzal were dispatched to Abbas's residence after reports of aerial firing were received.
"Upon reaching the scene, the SHO and his men were physically assaulted by MPA-elect Nadeem Abbas, who, along with his aides, tore their uniforms and fled the scene right after," he added.
The wounded personnel were shifted to Jinnah Hospital for treatment, the SP informed.
A case was later registered against 49 suspects, including Nadeem Bara and Muneer Bara.
The suspects have been booked for attempted murder and charged under the Terrorism Act.
