Newborn twins recovered; woman ends life in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD - Police claimed on Wednesday to have recovered newborn twins after a few hours of their abduction from General Hospital Ghulam Muhammad Abad. 

A woman gave birth to twin girls in General Hospital Ghulam Muhammad Abad where an unidentified woman impersonating herself as paramedic of the hospital took them in the pretext of getting them checked in nursery ward. When the suspected woman did not return, the mother of the newborn girls raised alarm and reported the matter to the hospital administration. The hospital admin immediately called the area police which after lodging a complaint started investigation on scientific lines. The police with the help of CCTV cameras and forensic evidences traced out the hideouts of accused in Bismillah Town. 

However, the police recovered the newborn babies safe and sound after a successful raid. The police have also arrested the suspected women and four others. Further investigation was underway.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a young woman has committed suicide over domestic dispute in the area of Thikriwala police station. Police spokesman said on Wednesday that 24-year-old Nida Kanwal wife of Sajid Javaid resident of Chak 241/R-B Chinchal Wala became dejected after quarreling with her in-laws over a domestic dispute. Over this issue, she reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope at her room. The police took the body into custody and started investigation.

‘Govt taking steps for welfare of people’

The PTI govt is taking effective measures to raise living standard of people. 

This was said by Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Chairman Chaudhry Latif Nazar while talking to a delegation of civil society at the FDA Complex here on Wednesday. He said that the government was providing economic relief to the poor through Ehsaas programme, adding that the government had introduced reforms in departments for the solution of problems. He said a number of development projects, including construction of roads, provision of clean water, sewerage facilities, up-gradation of dispensaries and schools, were being completed. Later on, MPA Latif Nazar also listened to problems of people and assured them that their issues were being addressed on a priority basis.

Third degree show-2021 held at GCWUF

The students of Fine Arts Department on Wednesday organised a third degree show-2021 in an art gallery under the aegis of Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Government College Women University, Faisalabad (GCWUF). Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Robina Farooq was the chief guest.

Chairperson Fine Arts Department Nadia Zafar, Registrar GCWUF Dr. Zill-i-Huma Nazli, Coordinator Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences Nousheen Syed, and many other faculty members and students attended the event. The students presented their concept and technique in the most unique way in their drawings.

The visitors applauded the quality of their presentations and appreciated the selection of delicate and sensitive issues of society and human life through art by the students. The exhibition will conclude on July 29.

Four policemen suspended over misconduct

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Riffat Mukhtar Raja suspended four officials, including a Station House Officer (SHO), over misconduct. The police on Wednesday said SHO Saddar police Ayyub Sahi, ASI Riaz Ahmed, Constables Muhammad Hussain and Muhammad Shahid were suspended.

49 ‘criminals’ arrested

The police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested 49 alleged criminals including 27 proclaimed offenders (POs) and recovered drugs and illegal weapons from them. 

According to the police, raiding teams also arrested seven drug-pushers and recovered 1.9-kg hashish and 34 litres of liquor from them. In a crackdown on illegal weapons, police arrested 15 persons and recovered 13 pistols, one rifle, one gun and a number of bullets from them.
