SHIKARPUR - Madeji Police have arrested a facilitator of terrorists during snap-checking at Sukkur-Larkana Road on late Friday night. According to reports, a police party was engaged in snap-checking at Rohoja diversion when it saw a corolla car coming from opposite direction. Police signaled it to stop and during the search, it arrested a facilitator who was later identified as Hafiz Ghulam Rasool Kunrani, 45. One hand grenade and a TT pistol were recovered from his possession, said the SHO Madeji police station.
The Madeji Police have registered two cases against him on the complaint of SHO Madeji and on behalf of the state and produced him before the Anti-Terrorism Court, Shikarpur. The ATC Shikarpur granted his seven days police remand and handed him over to the police for further interrogation.
The Station House Officer Madeji, Ali Soomro said the accused was traveling to Larkana when he was captured. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shikarpur, Nasir Aftab Khattak informed the media men that during initial interrogation, it is confirmed that arrested Kunrani was a facilitator of terrorists. He was involved in providing safe sanctuaries and weapons to terrorists and belonged to banned outfit, however, the police are investigating from different angles. Rumours are ripe that Kunrani is the resident of tehsil Thul district of Jacobabad. Currently, he was performing his duties as an Imam in a local mosque of Jacobabad. Further investigation is underway till this story was filed.
On the other hand, the residents of Chak Town staged protest demonstration for removing the name of 72-year-old labourer from an FIR registered with the Chak Police Station at the SSP Office Shikarpur here on Saturday.
A large number of protesters said one and half month ago, a 12-year-old boy namely Adeel Channa was murdered and the police had arrested the accused identified as Hafeez and Shakeel Channa on the charges of murder. The accused confessed the murder of Adeel Channa in front of Shikarpur SSP Nasir Aftab Khattak and SHO Aamir Ali aka Chulbul Panday, they added. But later, on the wish of an influential person of the area, the name of 72-year-old namely Ali Ahmed Mahar was added in the FIR to get their ulterior motives, they alleged. Later, the police have arrested Ali Ahmed Mahar which is a condemnable practice of the influential person of the area.
The protesters including Waheed Mahar, Noor Mahar, Nadir Shah, Chaudhry Akram, Munir Ahmed and others demanded the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police, Larkana, Abdullah Shaikh, SSP Nasir Khattak and Mehboob Mahar to take notice into the matter and play their role to provide justice or else they would extend their protest.
YOUNGSTER DIES IN ROAD MISHAP
A 20-year-old youngster died in a road accident at New Bridge (Nai Pull) at Sukkur-Larkana Road within the jurisdiction of Lakhi Ghulam Shah police station, some 30 kilometers from here the other day.
He was identified as Jahangir Memon, 20. He was going somewhere on his motorcycle from his village Lakhi Ghulam Shah when a van hit him.
He died on the spot and the van driver fled from the scene, leaving his van at roadside. The area police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Taluka Headquarter Hospital, Lakhi Ghulam Shah for autopsy and later handed over to his heirs. An FIR was not registered till this story was filed.
