Peace linked to Kashmir: Nawaz

LAHORE - All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Abdul Ghani Bhat has said that dozens of elections had been held in Kashmir but the leadership never worked to resolve the Kashmir issue. Talking to the newsmen at Chief Minister's Secretariat after meeting with PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday, he said the issue of Kashmir could not be resolved through  elections. He said during the meeting with the PML-N chief, the Kashmir issue, solidarity of Pakistan and the global economic crises were discussed. He said it was agreed in the meeting that leaders from Pakistan, India and Kashmir should look for the solution of the long-standing issue of Kashmir, adding that the solution of this issue was in the larger interest of India, Pakistan and the people of Kashmir. He further said durable peace in the world was linked to the solution of this issue and that the main hurdle against good relations between the two countries was the issue of Kashmir, without resolving which development was not possible. He said Nawaz Sharif had expressed to him his desire to see the Kashmir issue resolved according to the aspirations of the people of Kashmir. PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister  Shahbaz Sharif, former President Rafiq Tarar, Justice (r) Khalilur Rehman, Manzoor Hussain Sial, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Malik Pervaiz were also present on the occasion. Special Report adds:  During the meeting, the APHC leader informed Sharif brothers about recent freedom struggle in Kashmir and other issues. The PML-N leaders assured Abdul Ghani Bhat of their full cooperation in resolving longstanding Kashmir dispute. On the occasion, Nawaz Sharif said that without resolving Kashmir dispute, durable peace is not possible in the region and his party had always played its due role in this respect, adding: 'we assure Kashmiris that Pakistani people and my party are ready to offer any sacrifice for Kashmir freedom'. He further said Kashmir dispute would have been resolved if Kargil operation had not been started and Pervez Musharraf not toppled my govt because Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee himself had come to Lahore for this purpose. We had brought Kashmir to a solution'. Nawaz further said that Kashmir issue should be settled according to UN resolutions and Kashmiri leaders should be included in dialogue process because they are major party. He urged India to settle the issue as per UN resolutions and withdraw forces from the region. Shahbaz Sharif and other PML-N leaders also assured Abdul Ghani Bhat of their full cooperation in resolving Kashmir dispute. Abdul Ghani Bhat thanked PML-N leaders for their cooperation and said that Kashmiris people give respect to Pakistanis, adding: 'inclusion of Kashmiri people in dialogue process continued between both countries is must and both sides should take Kashmiri leadership into confidence'. Meanwhile, talking to The Nation, Bhat said Kashmiris would continue their indigenous struggle despite the oppression by the Indian forces, maintaining that Pakistan and India have no option other than resolving Kashmir conflict. Struggle launched by Kashmiris is near success, he added.
