ISLAMABAD - Former Interior Minister and Chairman Institute of Research and Reforms Rehman Malik yesterday urged the government and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan not to push the situation towards bloodshed. He said that if the government did not act wisely, “there is a possibility of massive bloodshed in the next few days. If the government has no problem in negotiating with the TLP, then this issue should be resolved.” In a statement, Malik asked why the government did not implement the agreement earlier signed with TLP. “The release of Saad Rizvi should not be any problem as TLP is not a terrorist organization and has not been banned by the Election Commission. The organization has representation in the provincial assembly,” he added. “I would like to warn both sides timely to move towards a solution to this issue and not to push the situation towards bloodshed,” he said. The PPP leader said that the government’s confrontation with TLP was not in the interest of the country in these situations. He said that Rangers had also been called in with police powers and if proper strategies are not used, clashes between the TLP and law enforcement agencies will escalate. Pakistan is being pushed towards unrest whereas the economic situation is already worsening and the rupee is falling sharply.
