Govt fails to protect farmers right

LAHORE - The Farmers Association of Pakistan (FAP) on Thursday strongly criticised the Punjab government and said that the Punjab Food Department has failed to protect the rights of the growers during the current wheat procurement campaign. According to a press release, the members of FAP during their meeting held on Thursday said that the procedure of jute bags issuance is so difficult that the growers are running from pillar to post to get it. They said that the government has procured only one million metric tons of wheat during the first 15 days of the campaign against the planned 2.5 million metric tons wheat. They said that the farmers have been left with no other option but to sell their produce at Rs 800 per maund against the fixed price of Rs 950 per maund due to the mismanagement and rude attitude of the food department officials.
