KARACHI - The dacoits took away Rs1.6 million cash from a private bank located within the jurisdiction of PIB police station, said police. Police quoted the statement of the eyewitnesses as saying that some six armed culprits stormed into the bank near New Town roundabout and looted Rs1.6 million cash in broad daylight. Dacoits also took away other valuables including mobile phones and computers of the bank employees and the customers and also a repeater gun of the security guard. Describing the incident, the bank staffers said that some five unidentified armed, over powered the security guards at the entrance of Allied Bank at gunpoint while one stood as a guard outside the bank. They reached the bank on three cars. The armed dacoits held the bank employees and customers hostage and asked the cashier to hand over the cash, mobile phones and a computer and within 5 minutes. They managed to escape easily after completing their swift operation. However, the police claimed that they have seized the security tapes in which the culprits would be brought to book as soon as possible. PIB police have registered the case no 182/2010 on the complaint of bank manager Muttahir Hussain Rizvi and initiated probe. It is pertinent to mention here that it was the second big incident of bank robbery. Previously, the dacoits have looted the cash of Rs44 million from a local bank at Murad Memon Goth four days ago.
