LAHORE - Two married women committed suicide rows in two different localities of Shahdara, police said on Thursday. Police investigators said that a woman (R) tied the knot with one Rashid, resident of Sui Gas Chowk, some four years back. After her marriage she contracted latent ailment, which never be cured despite the fact that doctors of various hospitals provided her medical treatment numerous times, they added. On the day of the incident, the woman took a washroom cleaning acid and gulped it. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead. Later, the police handed over the body to the heirs after completing legal requirements. In another incident, a 25-year-old woman committed suicide by swallowing poisonous pills over a family row at Jiya Mosa, Shahdara. Police investigators said that deceased Razia Bibi married Mannan one and a half years back. Her in-laws used to taunt her often for nothing. The dejected girl took it on heart and ended her life. She was rushed to the hospital but died before receiving any medical treatment. Her body was shifted to the city morgue for autopsy. 1 killed in road mishap A 40-year-old man was crushed to death by a speedy vehicle at Walton Road in Factory Area Police limits on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Tajj Mohammad, resident of the same locality. Police said that the deceased was crossing the road when a rashly-driven vehicle hit him. He sustained severe injuries. The locals rushed him to a nearby hospital where he died despite the doctors tried their best to save his life. The driver of the car, however, managed to flee from the crime scene. The police have registered an FIR against unidentified driver with no arrest so far. 5 merrymakers held The Qila Gujjar Singh police claimed to have arrested five people including three girls while making merry during a raid at a local hotel on Thursday. As per details, the police raided a hotel on a tip-off and arrested the accused identified as Razia Bibi, Musarrat, Sana Bibi, Awais and Sanaullah. A case has been registered against them. House on fire Luggage worth thousands of rupees reduced to ashes when fire erupted in a house at S-Block, Model Town, police said on Thursday. The rescuer maintained that the main cause of the fire was short-circuiting. The fire, however, was put out soon after rigorous efforts of firefighters. A family member said that clothes, furniture and other luggage reduced to ashes in the fire. 5-day theatre festival The Punjab Lok Rahs (PLR) in collaboration with Ali Institute of Education (AIE) organised a five-day theatre festival for children and youth at the AIE Auditorium here on Thursday. Two out of the five plays presented in the festival were performed by school children and three by young people on the issue of common mans daily life. The productions were beautifully crafted with music, dance and colors. The purpose of the festival is to convey message to the masses regarding importance of education, community collectivism, ills of corruption, and gender equality. It also inspires audience to experience 'quality theatre with purposeful entertainment.
