LAHORE  - Postgraduate students of University of Health Sciences (UHS) dominated the 2nd International Conference and Exhibition on Dental and Oral Health, held in Dubai last week.
The OMICS Group international conference, held on April 21-23, brought together more than 1000 faculty, post-docs, graduate students, and undergraduates from institutions Asia, Africa, America and Europe.
Six-member varsity delegation, consisting of MPhil students of Oral Pathology department, was led by Assistant Professor Dr Nadia Naseem. Dr Sunnaeyah Waris got third prize in the poster competition on her poster entitled “Histopathological changes in gingival tissues of patients having pulmonary tuberculosis in Pakistan”.
Dr Samia Qadir got overwhelming response on her presentation titled “Oral mucosal changes in patients of HIV/AIDS taking Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) in Pakistan.”
The study highlights preventive aspects needed to improve oral health which in return enhances quality of life as well as compliance to drug therapy in HIV patients.  Dr Samia earlier got gold medal on her research in the annual conference of Pakistan Association of Pathologists. Dr Rabia Anjum presented poster on “Clinicopathological characteristics and expression of CD10 in soft tissue lesions associated with impacted third molar”. The title of Dr Abdul Khaliq’s poster was “Morphological changes in oral mucosa of rabbit induced by light emitting diode (LED) used as dental curing light” whereas Dr Mohyman Sarfraz presented paper on “ Oral cytopatological changes in habitual wet snuff dippers in Pakistan”. All these papers have been published in the proceedings of the conference. UHS Pathology Department’s head, Prof A H Nagi said, “this recognition is particularly exciting for students because they were in competition with students not only from peer institutions but also from top research universities of the world”.
