Prayer leader besieged by PTI workers over remarks

peshawar   -   A prayer leader was besieged by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf supporters at a masjid in Hayatabad Township here on Friday. However, local elders and police rescued the prayer leader.


During the Friday prayer sermon at the masjid in Bangash Market of Phase-VI, Maulana Nazeer Ahmed condemned the Masjid-e-Nabvi incident in which some PTI workers had chanted slogans against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia the other day.


A resident of Hayatabad, Sajjad Khan, told this correspondent that   speech of the imam angered the PTI workers, who stood up and besieged him.


Later, the local elders intervened and rescued the imam who was taken out of the masjid in police custody.


After the incident, the prayer was then led by the naib imam of the mosque. Local PTI workers alleged that the imam belonged to the JUI-F party.


According to the residents of the posh Hayatabad Township, the area is a stronghold of PTI while the second largest party in the area is Jamaat-e-Islami.
