BAHAWALPUR - Deputy Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia ordered price control magistrates on Wednesday to launch intensive crackdown against hoarding.

He was reviewing performance of price control magistrates in the committee room of the office. Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Shahid Imran Marth, System Network Administrator Muhammad Azeem Zeeshan, Assistant Commissioners from across the district and price control magistrates were present on the occasion. The Deputy Commissioner said that the price control magistrates should regularly visit the shops and markets to check the prices and quality of food items.
He said that legal action should be taken in case of violation. System Network Administrator Muhammad Azeem Zeeshan while briefing about the performance of price controlling in the district said that between December 1, 2021 to December 29, the price control magistrates visited 9,568 shops, markets and carts in the district and checked the prices of essential commodities. A total fine of Rs. 10,85,502 was imposed on the spot for violating price lists. FIRs were registered against 99 persons in the concerned police stations. 17 shops were sealed and 339 people were arrested.

Deputy Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia chaired a meeting in committee room of the office in which steps taken in connection with “Ehsas Ration Concession Programme” were reviewed.
The deputy commissioner said that ‘Ehsas Ration Discount Programme’ is an important programme, therefore registration of grocery stores under this programme should be completed as soon as possible. In this regard, assistant commissioners across the district should work actively. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Shahid Imran Marth, Assistant Commissioners from across the district, Deputy Director Social Welfare, Deputy Director Local Government, officers of National Bank of Pakistan and officers of other departments concerned.
The deputy commissioner said that social welfare, local government along with the assistant commissioner of tehsil concerned should play their role in Ehsas Ration Discount Programme so that the low income people could get relief. In the meeting, the representative of National Bank of Pakistan gave a briefing on facility provided by the owner of the grocery store for opening a bank account. On the occasion, Deputy Director Social Welfare M Uzair said in a briefing that under the Ehsas Ration Discount Programme, a person from a poor family would be given a monthly subsidy.
