Perniya/Nosheen lift table tennis doubles gold

LAHORE - Wapda’s Perniya Zaman Khan and Chromatex’ Nosheen Waseem clinched the women’s doubles gold medal in the 57th National Table Tennis Championship after beating Fatima Khan/Kulsoom Khan 3-2 in the final here at Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall on Wednesday. 
National champion Perniya Khan, partnering with Nosheen Waseem, had to struggle hard to win the final by 3-2 with the score being 8-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-4, 12-10. Perniya/Nosheen though couldn’t start well as they lost the first game 8-11 but they bounced back in great style by playing tremendous table tennis and took the second game 11-5. They once against lost the third game by 7-11 but once again, they made a strong comeback and won the fourth game 11-4 and hard-fought fifth game 12-10 to clinch the gold medal. 
Earlier in the women’s doubles semifinals, Perniya Khan/Nosheen Waseem played well against Ayesha Sharjeel/Sadia Raheel (Wapda) and overpowered them by 3-1 with a score of 7-11, 13-11, 11-7, 11-7 to set final clash against Fatima Khan/Kulsoom Khan (Chromatex), who dominated the match fully and overpowered the pair of Wapda players Mehmooda Haider and Sanam Yasin 3-1 with the score being 11-5, 11-6, 13-11, 11-6. 
In the women’s singles semifinals, Haiqa Hassan (Army) and Raheela Kashif (Wapda) breezed into the finals by beating their respective opponents in the semifinals. In the women’s singles semifinals, Haiqa Hassan Sadia Falak Sher of Wapda by 4-1 with the score being 11-5, 7-11, 11-7, 11-2, 11-2 while Raheela Kashif had to struggle hard to beat spirited Ayesha Sharjeel (Wapda) by 4-3 with the score of 9-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-9, 4-11, 11-7, 12-10. 
Earlier in the women’s singles quarterfinals, Haiqa Hassan (Army) beat Perniya Khan (Wapda) (4-1), 12-10, 12-14, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9, Ayesha Sharjeel (Wapda) beat Kulsoom Khan (Chromatex) by 4-0, 11-6, 11-6, 11-3, 11-9, Raheela Kashif (Wapda) beat Hoor Fawad (Army) by 4-3, 8-11, 14-12, 11-13, 11-2, 10-12, 11-4, Sadia Falaksher (Wapda) beat Sanam Yasin (Wapda) by 4-0, 15-13, 11-3, 11-7, 11-4. 
In the men’s singles category, Wapda’s Shah Khan, Fahad Khawaja and Umam Khawaja and Army’s Faizan Zahoor cruised into semifinals. In the quarterfinals, Shah Khan (Wapda) beat Bilal Yaseen (Wapda) (4-1) 11-4,11-6, 8-11, 11-4, 11-5; Fahad Khwaja (Wapda) beat Rameez Khan (Wapda) (4-2) 11-4, 14-12, 11-8, 8-11, 11-13, 11-3; Faizan Zahoor (Army) beat Abdul Raheem (Wapda) (4-0) 11-7, 11-7, 11-7, 11-4 and Umam Khwaja (Wapda) beat Asim Qureshi (Wapda) (4-0) 11-9, 11-8, 11-2, 12-10. 
In the men’s doubles quarterfinals, Salman Saleem/Irtaza Ali (Railways) beat Arslan Alvi/Saim Adnan (Sindh) (3-1) 11-7, 3-11, 11-9, 11-9; Hamza Ikram/Abdul Raheem (Wapda) beat Faizan Zahoor/Obaid Shah (Wapda) (1-3) 11-8, 8-11, 9-11, 9-11; Aahil Shah/Kaif Riaz (Army) beat Paras Azam/Sharjeel Khatak (Punjab) (3-1), 10-12, 12-10, 11-6, 11-9 and Shah Khan/Umam Khawaja (Wapda) beat Ammad Uppal/Subhan Qureshi (Wapda) 3-0, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6.
