Workshop on 'Value addition in meat

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - TDAP organized a workshop on 'Possibilities of value addition in meat which was attended by various stakeholders belonging to the meat sector. Shahzad Hussain Rana, Director, TDAP made the inaugural speech and highlighted the importance of value addition in meat. He was of the view that demand of meat is much higher than its supply and we should export value-added meat products for more profit and foreign exchange earning. Dr Kashif Nauman of University of Veterinary Sciences & Animal (UVAS), Lahore talked about the importance of value addition in meat and apprised the participants that heat and serve red meats could easily generate $ 1 billion annual sales within a decade. Younus Qureshi of Red Cow Meat Company discussed costing / pricing of value added meat products while Dr. Kanwar Naeem of Lahore Meat Company talked about supply chain enhancement. Syed Hassan Raza, Secretary, APMEPA opined that for regular improvements in livestock loans and subsidies should be issued to the grass root level farmers and meat traders. He also outlined different governmental interventions required in enhancing tendency towards value addition.
