KARACHI - Commissioner of Karachi, Roshan Ali Khan addressing the members of Pakistan Association of Blind (visually impaired) sounded extremely confident that the metropolis would be “Disabled Friendly” city in next ten years.
Addressing a ceremony organized by PBA - Karachi Tuesday, he said the city administration is already making all out efforts to ensure implementation of two percent job quota for the people living with disability.
Roshan Ali Shaikh said development work presently underway in the city hold special provision that infrastructure at every level is necessarily public friendly in general and for people living with disabilities particularly. “As a policy matter all civic agencies including traffic police are trained to assist the disabled with all courtesy and without compromising their dignity said the commissioner of Karachi.
In context of steps taken by the government for the benefit of these special people, he particularly referred to efforts made by the special education department to contribute towards social, educational and professional empowerment among the people with physical and,or visual disabilities.
“Government through these departments managed by qualified professionals is already contributing towards skills development among the target population with equal emphasis on their employment,” said the commissioner of Karachi.
The ceremony was also addressed by Dr. Abdul Shakoor Abro, Ms.  Qudsia Khan, Muzzafar Ali Qureishi, Siraj Gaya, Hafiz Nasimuddin and Ibrahim Sultan.
It was also attended by director of media at commissioner office, Shabihuddin Siddiqui, Javed Ghazanfar, Anwar Siddiqui and a large number of PBA members as well as teachers associated with different schools for special people in the city.
Participants on the occasion urged Siraj Gaya , President for PBA, Karachi (South) to take back his decision of not to hold any position and to serve the association as an ordinary member.
They said the achievements made by PBA due to efforts by Gaya demanded that he may continue to lead the members in future too.
