ISLAMABAD - Minister of State for National Harmony Akram Masih Gill chaired the second meeting of National Commission for Minorities in Islamabad on Tuesday vows to continue struggle for the provision of rights to the minorities.
Addressing the 2nd meeting of National Commission for Minorities to prevent forced conversion, Gill said that rights of the minorities would be the major priority of the Commission so that they could live in the society with dignity and honour.
The Commission gave suggestion that statement of such girls which were forced to convert into Muslim should be recorded in front of judicial magistrate according to the Pakistan Penal Code besides this Minority Cultural Awards restoration has also been recommended for which the government has already provided funds. As many as 14 persons would be given these awards and Rs. 50,000/- also for their role in the development and services for the country.
Under the chairmanship of Gill, this has also been decided that a sub-commission headed by Ramesh Singh Arorah would be formed to work for the sanity of Gurdwara in Saidpur village in collaboration with the CDA, so that a better strategy wou ld be adopted. Draft of the Christian and Hindu Marriage Act would be sent to the religious minority parliamentarians and other stakeholders for their recommendations to finalize bill on the subject to be presented for legislation.
The Commission has also decided that the Chairman of Evacuee Trust Property Board should be from Minority and he must be a non Muslim. Summary of this has also been sent to the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Akram Masih Gill has also said that the minorities of Pakistan have played a good role in the field of development and prosperity of the country and they should be admired.
