HAFIZABAD -Growers of the district protested against the irregularities in the distribution of gunny bags and its supply to non-growers. They called upon the federal government to ensure purchase of every grain of wheat from the growers.
Scores of tractors and trolleys laden with wheat were stationed outside the procurement centres but the Passco has refused to supply gunny bags.
Kissan Board Divisional President Amanullah Chattha alleged that the Passco had supplied gunny bags to their favourites and non-growers. He said that the genuine growers had been deprived of getting fair return of their produce.
He also alleged that influential of other districts had obtained gunny bags from the procurement token centres of Hafizabad.
He said that he had called on the Passco Hafizabad Deputy General Manager, who has told him that the Passco had no funds to procure further stock.
He demanded purchase of every grain of wheat as had been promised by the government prior to the start of procurement drive.
Fined for overcharging: District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA) Secretary Umer Warraich launched a special crackdown on overcharging by transporters. He impounded 12 private vehicles and challaned scores of drivers and conductors for overcharging and realized total fine of Rs7,100 form them.
