Zaheer Abbas bats for Pakistan-India series

LAHORE - Former cricketers on Tuesday welcomed the indication of resumption of Pakistan-India bilateral series saying the cricket lovers would have a treat to watch the arch-rivals teams clashing on the field. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf after a meeting with its Indian counterpart had announced that the bilateral cricket series between both the countries would resume soon. Former skipper Zaheer Abbas said Pakistan-India bilateral series is a most-wanted by the Asian people and even the world. “It was the ideal time for the chairman to ask BCCI to have a bilateral series at any neutral venue or even in Pakistan or India,” he said.Zaheer said a Pak-India series is the dire need of the hour as it has been ages since the two have meet each-other in a series except in the World Cup semi- final match and the Asia Cup.“The cricket lovers all around the world want to see Pak-India meet in the field,” he said.Zaheer believes that the series would provide a big breakthrough in improving relations between the two countries that were messed up after the 2008 Mumbai attacks. An India team was due to tour Pakistan in early 2009 but the visit was cancelled. “A Pak-India series should be kept on any former great cricketer’s name, Ranjit Singhji, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev or from Pakistan Javed Miandad, Imran Khan to make it a memorable moment for both the countries to cherish for,” he said.Former pacer Sarfraz Nawaz said the proposed series would boost the passion in the players who are dying to meet each other on the field.“If the series happens it would make all the people of both the countries get them locked in their houses to watch it. This series is bigger than any other series in the World of cricket even the Ashes,” he said adding that the Pak-India series should happen now.Sarfraz also hailed the BCCI for inviting Pakistan’s national Twenty-20 champions Sialkot Stallions for the Champions League T20 to be held in India in October.“All seems well between both the countries cricket boards and I hope these relations get better day by day,” Sarfraz added.
