Zaka proves lucky for Pakistan team

The new Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf proved lucky enough for the Pakistan team as they won the second Test match with a big margin against the one the of the strongest world teams Sri Lanka. Pakistan team outplayed Sri Lanka in all departments of the game to register nine-wicket victory to go one up in the three-match series at Dubai City Sports Stadium on Saturday. Pakistan required five runs for victory at the end of schedule time. The umpires allowed an extra over, and Pakistani batsmen achieved the target in that over. Pakistan was lucky enough to beat the Lankans as in the absence of DRS technology, a lot of decisions went against Pakistan. Kumar Sangakkara was unlucky to be given out lbw as he was unhappy over umpires decision. The PCB tried its best to find a sponsor for the DRS technology used in the Test matches but failed in this regard, however, the system will be utilised in the one-day internationals and Twenty20 matches. Thanks to off-spinner Saeed Ajmal who took his fourth five-wicket haul in Tests to help Pakistan bundled out Sri Lanka for 257 runs. Pakistan required 94 runs to win and they achieved the target after losing Taufiq Umars wicket. Hafeez (59 with 5x4, 2x6, off 64 balls) and Azhar (29 with one six) led Pakistan to a big nine-wicket victory to go one up in the series. Earlier, Pakistan had a flying start in the first session on day four to grab three crucial wickets, including the key scalp of Kumar Sangakkara, to boost their chances of winning. Pakistan dismissed Sangakkara (30) in the fourth over of the day before dismissing Mahela Jayawardene (5) and skipper Tillakaratne Dilshan (3) to bolster their chances of taking a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series. Captain Dilshan looked off-colour and was undone by some superb reverse swing bowling from left-arm seamer Junaid Khan and was struck plum in front of the stumps to a delivery that came in after pitching. Junaid bowled around the stumps to the right-handers and was able to get the old ball swing both ways, making life difficult for the batsmen on a wearing pitch. Sri Lankans must blame themselves for this defeat as their fielders floored a lot of catches off the bowling of Prasad and Lakmal. The latter was unlucky enough as most of the catches were dropped on his bowling in the earlier stage of Pakistan innings that helped hosts pile up 403 runs in their first innings and gained 164 runs crucial lead. Prasad and Lakmal bowled superbly while Rangana Herath failed to deliver for Sri Lanka as the Islanders were banking on him. From Pakistan, Junaid Khan showed improvement in his bowling and he looked like a certain future star of Pakistan cricket. Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal and Abdul Rehman also proved their worth. Wahab Riaz and Aizaz Cheema were dropped by the management which proved too good for Pakistan and helped in achieving the victory. Pakistan Cricket Board must utilise Decision Review System in future to avoid inconsistent umpiring as Pakistan was lucky enough to win the Test despite a lot of decisions went against them but Lankans fail to take the benefit. Pakistan must retain the same winning squad for the third Test, to be played in Sharjah, to win the series 2-0 against the Lankans. The new PCB Chief must make a future plan for the upcoming 2015 World Cup as many of Pakistan players, Misbahul Haq, Younus Khan and Saeed Ajmal would be 40 plus. There is a dire need of hunting young and promising talent to prepare for the upcoming mega event and we must have back-up players to avoid any problem in future.
