Thirteen killed in violence during Eid holidays

KARACHI - As many as thirteen people were gunned down in separate acts of violence during Eid holidays. In first incident, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan killed one of its own operatives in Kanwari Colony over the suspicion that he might have aided police raids and targeted operations against the outfit. The victim was identified as Abdul Ghafoor, son of Gulab Khan. His body was transported to his house on a pushcart by other TTP operatives. Police sources said the victim was a close aide of Ameer Shair Khan, TTP Sultanabad area chief. The sources said TTP heads found Ghafoor involved in various police raids and targeted operations against the outfit. They said that he was brutally killed in front of residents of the area, but everyone refused to pass a comment over it. The victim’s family also declined to nominate anyone for the fear of the TTP.In a targeted operation, Rangers officials killed a bus driver within the remit of the Sukhan Police Station. Police officials said the deceased, 32-year-old Jan Muhammad, was killed in Lalabad area. Residents of the area staged a protest, and demanded arrest of the accused Rangers personnel. Following the protest, the police registered an FIR.Unidentified assailants threw a body near ICI Bridge. According to police officials, the victim, Arsalan Ahmed, had been abducted from Baldia two days ago. Until the filing of this report, it could not be ascertained whether the victim had any political affiliation. The officials however suspected that Lyari gangsters might have killed Ahmed after abducting and torturing him. Separately, a bullet-riddled body was found from Jahanabad area. It was shifted to a morgue for identification. Police officials suspected that unidentified gunmen might killed him and thrown the body near ICI Bridge. Another body was recovered in Lasi Para. Identified as Jahanzaib Nisar, the victim had left home to meet his grandfather, when unidentified attackers took him captive and later killed him. Political and religious affiliations of the victim could not ascertained till the filing of this report. However, the body was handed over to the heirs after autopsy. Another mutilated body was found near Lyari riverbed within the remit of the Liaquatbad Police Station. Officials said the victim, identified as Niaz Badshah, was abducted and severely tortured afterwards. He was associated with the PPP. The body was handed over to the heirs after autopsy.A resident of Baldia was shot dead by unidentified gunmen. Police officials said Kamran Ayoub was standing outside his residence, when the attackers, riding a motorbike, appeared and opened fire on him. The body was handed over to the heirs after autopsy. The motive behind the killing could not be ascertained till the filing of this report. In Nazimabad area, shooting by unidentified armed riders left a man dead and another wounded near Inquiry Office. Thirty-five-year-old Mehmood-ul-Hassan and his friend Ejazuddin were sitting near their residence, when the attackers appeared and sprayed them with bullets. Hassan succumbed to his gunshot wounds at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police officials suspected that it might be a sectarian killing.A hotel owner was mowed down in Khokharapar area. Police officials said the victim, Shahid Hussain, owned a tea stall in Mehran Town. They suspected that extortion mafia was behind the murder because the victim had declined to pay them Rs 0.5 million. The victim sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the way to hospital.In Sharafi Goth area, unidentified gunmen targeted a security guard of a factory and managed to flee after their swift operation. Police said that the gunmen reached the factory gate and shot and wounded Ghulam Abbas, who died while being ferried to a hospital.A man, namely Naeem Khan, 38, was gunned down near Bangash Hospital within the precincts of the Cliftion Police Station. Investigators suspected that the victim might have killed over personal enmity. He hailed from Punjab, resided in Karachi lone, and was found involved in antisocial activities. A rickshaw driver was gunned down in Q Block, North Nazimabad. Police said that unidentified armed men killed Razimat Khan while they were sitting in his vehicle. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained. The body was shifted to a morgue after autopsy. In Shadman Town, unidentified gunmen killed 26-year-old Fahad Siddique and fled. Police officials said the victim was on his way back home when targeted.
